Music in 2007

So, it seems I've acquired a whole bunch of cds released last year. 27, in fact. So, instead of doing like a top 10 thing like I'd thought of doing I'm going to (quite late) just post what I got, and my thoughts, listed alphabetically, because alphabetical is the rockingest order.

Tori Amos - American Doll Posse
Very close to being my new favorite Tori album. Very cool conept, with Tori taking on five seperate personalities throughout the album. Very varied musically, with some very classic-Tori stuff, with a couple really rocking tracks thrown in.
Related videos:
Big Wheel
Body and Soul (live version) (Easily my favorite song on this album, so I had to find *some* video of it)

Bjork - Volta
A new Bjork album. Yep, she's still Bjork. Cool stuff, as always.
Related videos:
Declare Independance

Blonde Redhead - 23
A decent album. Didn't really grab me the way their previous album, Misery Is a Butterfly, did. Still, excellent title.
Related videos:
23

Melora Creager - Perplexions EP
The frst solo album from Rasputina's frontwoman. Interesting little diversions. Warbots is a really neat track.
No videos I can find. :(

The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - The Shadow Out of Tim
NEW THICKETS! YAY! The best damn album of the entire year. Mostly based on a retelling of H. P. Lovecraft's "The Shadow Out of Time", starring a new character, marine biologist Timothy Vess. Fun Lovecraftian stuff, from the only band that includes a glossary with their lyrics sheet. Besides the Lovecraftiness, this is just a damn good rock album. Hooray for the Darkest of the Hillside Thickets.
Related videos:
A Marine Biologist (demo)

Feist - The Reminder
A pretty cool album by a Canadian singer/songwriter. I'm not too terribly into it, but there are a few really good tracks. Plus, her videos are fantastic.
Related videos:
My Moon My Man
I Feel It All
1 2 3 4

Gogol Bordello - Super Taranta
Really cool "Gypsy punk" (as the band call it). One of the most fun albums I've heard in quite some time.
Related videos:
Wonderlust King

Interpol - Our Love To Admire
Pretty much more of the same from Interpol. Didn't really do much for me.
Related videos:
No I in Threesome

Juliette and the Licks - Four on the Floor
I never knew Juliette Lewis rocked this hard. As it turns out, she does. Awesome. I think I like her better as a rock singer than I liked her as an actress. And I thought she as a pretty good actress, too.
Related videos:
Hot Kiss
Sticky Honey

Justice - Cross
Neat little electronica/dance album. Not something I see myself listening to frequently, but still cool.
Related videos:
D.A.N.C.E.

Klaxons - Myths of the Near Future
Really fun stuff. Odd mix of rock and electronica, with a lot of science fiction references (and, in one track, a fuckton of Crowley references). Strange, fun, album.
Related videos:
Magik
Gravity's Rainbow
Golden Scans
Atlantis To Interzone

KMFDM - Tohuvabohu
Another really great KMFDM album. I'm beginning to really love the band's current lineup. Not quite as good as Hau Ruck, but close.
There are no videos, but apparently some people on YouTube have posted most of the songs with a still image as "videos". I shan't post any, but the songs are well worth looking up.

Storm Large - Ladylike Side One
Very good album. My only complaint is that there's not enough of it. Too damn short. Still, great stuff.
Related videos:
Beautiful (an older version of the song, live)
Ladylike (again, live)

MC Frontalot - Secrets from the Future
Nerdcore rap. 'nuff said?
Related videos:
It Is Pitch Dark
Bizarro Genius Baby

My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - The Filthiest Show in Town
Sadly, kinda bland. Tries very hard to live up to its title, but just doesn't reach the level of previous TKK albums.
Related videos:
TV Sista (remix)

Noisettes - What's the Time Mr. Wolf?
A seriously great rock album. Not much more to said about it.
Related videos:
Don't Give Up
Scratch Your Name
Sister Rosetta
Count of Monte Cristo

Pipettes - We Are the Pipettes
An oddly charming pop album. Reminiscent of old girl-bands.
Related videos:
Pull Shapes
Because It's Not Love (But It's Still a Feeling)

Placebo - Meds
A new Placebo album. Yep. Cool stuff. Mainly, I just love the title track, but the rest is also pretty cool.
Related videos:
Meds

Polysics - Karate House
It's amazing to thik of how far Polysics have progressed, musically. Originally just very noisy and DEVO-derivative, they're now pretty damn tight. I love this album.
Related videos:
Catch On Everywhere
ハードロックサンダー (HARD ROCK THUNDER)
Electric Surfin' Go Go

Rasputina - Oh Perilous World
Very interesting concept album, telling a story I'm not certain I understand. One of Rasputina's most impressive efforts to date.
Related videos:
1816, the Year without a Summer

Rilo Kiley - Under the Blacklight
Didn't do much for me. *shrug*

Siouxsie - Mantaray
Siouxsie Sioux's first solo album, after around 30 years in the music industry. Pretty damn good, actually.
Related videos:
Into a Swan

Tegan and Sara - If It Was You
Really fun album. Far more rocking than I'd expected.
I found no videos. :(

They Might Be Giants - The Else
A few really excellent tracks surrounded by a few unremarkable tracks. Like TMBG's last few albums. The excellent tracks (The Mesopotamians, The Cap'm, Climbing the Walls, and Smothered Hope stick in my head the most) make the rest well worth it, though.
Related videos:
The Mesopotamians
I'm Impressed
With the Dark

Velcra - Hadal
Really cool Finnish industrial band. They've calmed down quite a bit on this album. More "haunting melody" than "loud noises and screaming". While I normally prefer the screaming, I must admit Jessi Frey has a really nice voice when she actually sings. Plus, the album finishes with the supremely cathartic "Quick and Dirty"
Related videos:
Quick and Dirty
Dusk Becomes a Dawn

Warp 11 - It's Dead Jim
Trek Rock. Awesome.
Related videos:
Tribbles and Ecstacy (live)

White Stripes - Icky Thump
I waited a long time before getting this one. I don't know why. It rocks. Especially "Rag and Bone".
Related videos:
Conquest
You Don't Know What Love Is
Icky Thump

So, it looks like I've started collecting toys now. I started off small, a few Godzillas and assorted other kaiju here, a few DC Direct figures there... And, then, boom, I discover DC Minimates and suddenly *must have them all*, and then I'm tracking down all sorts of DC Direct toys (just got the 52 Booster Gold figure yesterday, finally. Been looking for one for months.) And now, today, I was in the mall and wandered into Hot Topic and found the Futurama toys. They had Frye and Dr. Zoidberg. I only grabbed Zoidberg today, but I know now that I must get the whole set. Why? Because the series has a "build a figure" thing with a different part packaged with each figure. So, if I get all six, I can build the Robot Devil. It's sad how much I want a Robot Devil.

So, I've got myself a new geeky hobby. I think I'll start posting pictures soon.

In other news, I've been planning to do a project involving mutilated little green plastic army men for ages now, and I figured I'd get started on that soon, so I've been trying to find some of those little guys so I can mutilate/mutate them. We have none at Wal-Mart. Typical. Today I went to Toys R' Us, and all they had was a huge bucket (like, way too big to take on the bus) that only had 100 pieces, including tanks and terrain and crap. I do not need vehicles or terrain. I can make my own terrain. All I want are a few cheapo bags of crappy little plastic soldiers. Y'know, the kind that you used to be able to find anywhere. Argh. I may have to look around online for the damned things.

The sticker on my jacket says so. Also, I bought cupcakes. I love how democracy in action always coincides with children selling baked goods. Or, at least at my polling place it does.

In other news, I just got an assload of comics last week (continuing my collection of many assloads of comics). Have so far read Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil, Buddy Does Seattle, Mystery in Space volume 1, Jimbo's Inferno, Justice League Elite vol. 2, and the first three volumes of Dykes to Watch Out For. I'm currently reading Black Hole, and still have Epileptic and Jimmy Corrigan to go. All good stuff so far.

Have also picked up some new music. Got some Gogol Bordello, on Laurel's recomendation (great stuff!), and so MC Frontalot, as both Bailey and Ryan have recommended him. Also got more Soviettes.

I've ordered a whole-weekend ticket for New York Comicon next year, and have applied for the vacation time for that weekend. I fully expect it to rock. Just need a bus ticket and a hotel room, and I'm good to go.

I've also put in for some vacation time at the end of November and beginning of December, as I really need to spend a good chunk of time working on creative projects.

I'm putting together a new website due to payment problems with my last one. Unsure when it'll be ready.

That's about all I can think of right now. Ciao.

So, yesterday morning at work I get as a customer this guy with a shaved head and tattoos, and, as he's about to leave, I notice that he has tattooed across the top of his chest the words "whit power". Seriously, WHAT THE FUCK?! It's 2007, already. How the hell can people still be this fucking backward? I mean, come on, it's been accepted for years now that there are no genetic differences between races, so we're all more or less the same. DARE YOU QUESTION SCIENCE, NAZI SCUM? Gah. Yeah, I know these assholes exist. Intellectually, I know that. Never actually seen one before (to my knowledge).

It's just... very sad and disturbing that this ignorance and asshattery would still exist in this day and age.

Rachel needs

Google "(your name) needs" to find out what you need. Here are the top ten things Rachel needs (stolen from Sara):

Rachel needs to have blush that is very bright and colorful.
Rachel needs no signs to unite with Yaacov,
Rachel Needs Some Good Thoughts.
Rachel needs to refer to Web sites, manuals, and a variety of documentation
Rachel needs guidance and normal supervision.
Rachel needs more caffeine
Rachel needs to join the Original Jyter's Group. (The what now?)
rachel needs 2 get over herself and she needs 2 do it NOW!
Rachel needs to set her sights a little higher.
Rachel needs to place a parrot that has been taught to speak Maypure, a South American language last uttered hundreds of years ago in the aviary.

Got a good laugh out of someone today.

One of my regular customers came into the store today, and after the requisite "Hi, how are you doing?" he responded and asked me the same. My answer was "I find myself thinking that this job would be much easier if the company wasn't so insistant upon sobriety." I believe the result was what one would call a guffaw. I like it when I can do that.

It went much better than yesterday's attempt at humor, when a customer had a bunch of junk food and said she was shopping while hungry. I said "Yeah, they say you should never shop hungry. Especially at the pet store. They kinda frown on that." That one fell a bit flat.

Maybe the picture and quote will match up, maybe they won't. Either way, I'll have it started up some time next week.

Today's been a mostly dull day off. Went to the mall, just because I seem not to get out a whole lot anymore. Went on a wee bit of a music buying binge. This is what I got:

They Might Be Giants - The Else
Horrorpops - Hell Yeah!
Rilo Kiley - Under the Blacklight
KMFDM - Tohuvabohu
The Soviettes - LPIII
Nomeansno - All Roads Lead To Ausfahrt
Klaxons - Myths of the Near Future

So far I've listened to the new TMBG (decent, but unspectacular), and am currently listening to the Horrorpops cd (kinda kicks ass). Am looking foreward to the others, most especially the KMFDM one, as their last album before this one was, in my opinon, their best yet.

So, I said I'd talk about what I've been up to creatively...

Well, I've pretty much got enough money right now to self-publish one or two issues of a comic, and I know exactly what I want to do... Hard part now is 1) Writing it, 2) Finding an artist or artists, 3) Putting it together and sending it to the printers.

So, what's it about? Well, after throwing a whole bunch of ideas around in my head, I've decided that it's going to be an anthology series (that is, multiple, unrelated stories going on at once), concentrating on super-heroes. I'm not sure how much more I should really talk about it here... I don't think some random stranger's just going to come and steal my ideas before I finish them, but, hey, it pays to be cautious. But, hey, if you want me to ramble obnoxiously about what I'm doing, just ask, and I'll likely do so.

If anyone knows how to go about finding someone to draw a comic, please tell me. I'm pretty much clueless in this regard.

So... I guess I'm back.

Well, I've been gone from here for a while. Again. Combination of depression and lack of much of anything to say. But, I got bored, so here I am.

Nothing really new to report... I've become addicted to DC Minimates (little almost lego-person-esque figures of DC Comics characters that come in packs of two... I have all of them except for the Superman/Luthor set). Have read an assload of stuff since I was last here. Won't really do reviews or list anything, as that would take hella long.

Been getting into some new/recent music. Velcra, Warp 11, Stolen Babies, Feist, Juliette and the Licks, Noisettes, Ladytron, CSS, Decemberists, Silversun Pickups... all very good stuff. Also, if you haven't heard The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets' new album, The Shadow Out of Tim, you need to. It's Lovecraftian rock at its very best.

Hm... I've little else to say, right now. I'll talk of my latest creative endeavors next time.

More comics I read

Bear: Immortal: I already have four of the issues collected in this volume... re-read all the stuff I've read before, and y'know what? It's still freakin' hilarious. Wacky, fucked-up, violent, random, witty fun. Two thumbs up, five stars, and a wombat.

Dead Eyes Open: Wow. So, I pretty much just picked this up because somebody on Barbelith wrote it, and because it was pretty much criminally inexpensive (around $7 for 6 issues). The basic premise is that dead people are beginning to not stay dead... but they're still the same people. Very unusual direction for a zombie book. It starts off a little weak (things seem to go a little too quickly, and we aren't really allowed to get a feel for the characters until the second issue), but it picks up quite well, and the writing is rock-solid straight through. The art isn't really my cup of tea, but I've always paid more attention to the writing anyway. Definitely one of the best comics nobody's been talking about. I recommend it heartily, especially at that price.

In addition, I also purchased Slave Labor Graphics' "5 random comics for a dollar" thing, and ended up with: The Waiting Place vol 2 #3 (Well-written, good art, but couldn't really get into it.), Mister Blank #13 (An exercise in having no clue what's going on. Intrigued me, though.), Slacker Comics #13 (Fairly amusing.), Halo and Sprocket #2 (Which I already own and adore.), and Patty Cake & Friends #13 (Which did absolutely nothing for me.).

Recent Reading

Okay, stuff I've been reading.

Comics first.

Birds of Prey: Perfect Pitch: Gail Simone is without a doubt one of my favorite comics writers ever. Characterization and dialogue were, as usual, top-notch. The Black Canary vs Trickster fight was hilarious. Simone really manages to make the Calculator look like a credible threat, something that hasn't been done by anyone, ever. Prometheus and Deathstroke both seemed to kick ass a little too easily. I'm with everyone else calling foul on Prometheus taking down Shiva in three seconds. Still, a very enjoyable read. Gypsy joining the team does absolutely nothing for me, though. I very much look foreward to Barda joining up.

Checkmate: A King's Game: Super-espionage! Super-backstabbing! Okay, it looks like I like Rucka's writing. Alan Scott comes off as a little prickish in this (but, then, he's been slowly edging that way for a while, in my opinion). Sasha Bordeaux is pretty damn cool. I love her semi-OMAC look. I love to hate Amanda Waller. The "Suicide Squad" story was hilarious (poor Jewellee!). It was great to see the Great Ten in action again (after their 52 debut). Good popcorn comics. Something I've been reading a lot of, lately.

Hellblazer: Empathy Is the Enemy: I've been hearing good things about Denise Mina's writing on this book, and, hey, I'm always up for a little bit of John "Bastard" Constantine, so I gave this one a go. So, anyway, as far as Hellblazer scribes go, where does Denise Mina rank? At the friggin' top, right there with Delano and Ellis. Genuinely creepy book, and kept me in suspense, waiting to find out jusxt what the hell was going on. Too bad Mina's off the book, though. Maybe Andy Diggle will be a good follow-up. At least, I hope so.

Outsiders: Wanted: Because what the world really needed was an Outsiders/John Walsh teamup. This book is now officially a guilty pleasure.

52: Issues 44-46: 44: Damn, even though I knew it was coming almost as clearly as I knew Osiris' death was coming, Isis' death scene still stung like hell. As played-up as these Horsemen were, Black Adam managed to take them down without too much trouble. Also, Renee! Binary gas! Woohoo! 45: Ladies and gentlemen, Black Adam's nervous breakdown. He shoves the Marvels away, nearly takes Montoya's head off, and then kills the entire nation of Bialya. Yeesh. 46: Black Adam vs. every freaking mad scientist. I was expecting this fight to go differently than it did. After seeing just how insane and badass Adam is over the past couple weeks, I kinda forgot about how damn dangerous just one evil genius can be. Never mind an island full of them. Does make sense that they'd be able to take him down. It's official: I heart Dr. Cale. "I made them. I made the things that killed your family, you arrogant alpha-prick. It was me." While I'm glad she's alive, Black Adam's still a chauvanist pig for ignoring her (and, I guess, not splattering her). I didn't bother reading Batman's origin. I kinda already know it.

Also, in the world of things that aren't comics, Ryan lent me Haruki Murakami's (god, I hope I spelled that name right) Wind-Up Bird Chronicles. I absolutely loved this book. Strange and mundane at the same time, hinting at some very bizarre stuff, but kind of talking around it, not about it. Still leaves you wondering. Amazing damn book.

Currently reading (comic) Bear: Immortal, and (not a comic) Prof. Steven Hawking's A Brief History of Time. To read soon: (comics) Dead Eyes Open issues 1-6, various things SLG sent me, (not a comic) a book on Celtic Mythology I picked up the other day.

Recent comics reading

52, week 40: John Henry Irons seems a bit tougher than he should be. Impalement with a blunt object should generally take someone down for the count. Ah well. We got to see him be a Big Damn Hero, so that's cool. Beast Boy seemed a little callous about Everyman's demise, but oh well. No origin this week. Le sigh.

52, week 41: Renee hitting on Wonder Woman. Awesome. Also: MOGO! Any comic with Mogo in it is pure gold. Starfire's origin was at least informative.

52, week 42: Ralph finally shows his detective skills, outwits the guy who'd been playing him all along, and then gets (very likely) dead. Damn. We finally get to see Renee without a face, and this makes me happy. Green Arrow's origin is "I already knew all that." territory, and the art's unimpressive. *shrug*

52, week 43: Oh, Sobek! From bad comic relief to people-eater in one issue. Alas, poor Osiris, I hardly expected you to survive this series. Morrison pours on the metafiction in the Animal Man sequence, as the big-headed yellow aliens reset Buddy's morphogenic grafts. Trust me, it makes sense if you've read Morrison's run on Animal Man's series. And Buddy interfaces with some sun-eaters. I wanna say this is cool, but I don't know what the fuck a sun-eater is. And Lady Styx being reborn (rather literally)? Ewww. Awesome origin for Plastic Man, with great art by Van Sciver, and an unexpected appearance by Woozy Winks. To have Woozy Winks in the same comic that just had a guy being very messily devoured is just beautiful.

Teen Titans: Titans Around the World: The Teen Titans make the One Year Later jump, and the book is as strong as ever. I'm thoroughly enjoying the new team. I went into this expecting Ravager to be utterly badass, and to adore her. She is, and I do. I just wish she were a bit more clothed. I *heart* Miss Martian. Kid Devil seems... okay. This new Doom Patrol is... well, screwed up, but I suppose that's the point. The Chief's an asshole. Aaaand we get to see more of everyone's favorite homosexual gorilla and brain-in-a-jar couple, Mallah and the Brain, which, of course, is a great thing. Tim Drake's beginning to creep me out, though.

Runaways: Parental Guidance: First, Molly's solo issue: Freakin' sweet. Molly's very close to becoming my favorite Marvel character. Of course, Vaughan's leaving the title, so she'll probably be ruined. As for the main arc: Pretty interesting, goes back to the first series, as far as theme and everything. Generally pretty cool.

Today was my first day training to be a backup accounting associate at work... Got up at 2:30am, went in at 5. It seemed pretty easy, and I liked the work. Got along well with Katie, who was training me. There seemed to be a whole lot of stuff going on in the store today. Can't really say what. I was told that I was doing pretty well, and evidently the store manager was raving about how well I was doing, and I was told to put being a regular accounting associate in my "career preferences" thing in the computer system. So, I guess I did okay.

Overall, a pretty good day.

I've got tomorrow off, and I think I'll head to the Eye Opener to catch up on 52 (my subscription has ended), and maybe Atom and Nextwave, if I can find the issues I'm missing. Also, I need bags. Maybe I'll grab lunch at Puerto Vallarta in West Hartford after. I've been jonesing for some chorizo quesadillas.

Recent Comics Reading

Justice League: A New Beginning: The beginning of Keith Giffen and J. M. Dematteis' run on JLA/I, back in the 80s. A few funny moments, some decent action, plenty good character moments. I wish Dr. Light stayed around longer. I liked her. Batman knocking out Guy Gardner? Freakin' sweet. Dr. Fate kinda bores me, though. I loved seeing Big Barda wearing bunny slippers. I'm not sure what that says about me. Overall, an enjoyable enough read.

Formerly Known as the Justice League: Keith and J. M. return. A decently funny book, but not as funny as I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League.

Seven Soldiers of Victory Volume Four: Good Yog this thing is amazing. Frankenstein? Badass. The Bride? Even more badass, plus sexy as hell (er... not that I'm into four-armed reanimated corpse women...). Alix finally sees some action. The Mister Miracle stuff continues to be kinda "meh" for me. SS#1 was pretty much a tiny condensed epic masterpiece. Grant Morrison and J. H. Williams III work amazingly well together. Zatanna's "Ekirts sreidlos neves!" page is gorgeous. The Kirbyesque section on Aurakles is great. Everything comes out so wonderfully. Frankenstein is badass, Ystina is badass, I, Spyder is badass. We get to see Dark Side go all Darkseid. Everything is just so glee-inducing. I only wish there were more.

Outsiders: The Good Fight: I kinda think Winick is losing it. The story is about as interesting as Outsiders stories get, but the dialogue comes out as stilted and unnatural in a lot of places. Mallah is, however, brilliant.

Ex Machina: March To War: Nooooooooo! :( Vaughan continues to be freakin' brilliant. This series has really grown on me. Like West Wing with super powers. The arch-nemesis story is creepy as hell.

Doom Patrol: Magic Bus: Morrison. Doom Patrol. Mr. Nobody. 'nuff said? I swear to god every word Mr. Nobody says is pure gold. The Aenigma Regis story kinda lost me. I think I'll need to read that a few times. Very sad how things seem to be falling apart for the DP, but I knew it was coming. My guess is the next collection will be the last.

Y, the Last Man: Kimono Dragons: Y'know how Vaughan is an awesome writer? Yeah. Very compelling series. Not much else to say. Oh yeah, Allison Mann in college? Major hotness.

Doctor Strange: The Oath #1: Yet more Vaughan. Very interesting take on the Sorceror Supreme.

Tequila makes me a lyricist

So, I've started drinking lately... Not really heavily, but enough to get numb for a little while. I've discovered I really like tequila sunrises. In fact, I just had one.

So, anyway, I wrote this poem a while ago, and I've been wanting to turn it into song lyrics at some point. So, this would be my attempt at that.

Of course, I can't find the original poem (it's in a notebook somewhere), so it may have absolutely no resemblence. Anyway:

Chainsaw, My Heart

I feel all jagged inside like
sawblades.
I sit and tear myself up like
always.

I can't stop feeling
What I feel.
I couldn't help thinking
It was real.
I trusted you, I loved you
I knew I shouldn't.
I did it to myself again.

Chainsaw, my heart.

The love I feel tears
my insides
Every day it happens
a thousand times
You were never any good for me.

I always knew I never could
trust you.
I always knew you would only
hurt me.
But my heart cut me up again.

Chainsaw, my heart.

I feel all jagged inside like
sawblades.

Of course, since I can't sing worth a damn, or rfemember how to play guitar, this probably won't ever be an actual song. But I think I like it.

Well... been a while.

So, I pretty much stopped posting here for a while. And stopped reading anything here. Sorry.

So... Just had a nightmarish year. Met someone, fell in love, got jerked around and had my heart broken repeatedly without even ever going out with her. It felt like she was the one, and... fuck it. I've said all this before, and I don't need to repeat it again. Let's just leave it as "single worst incident in Rachel's nonexistant love life thus far." I don't really feel like giving any more details right now.

Also, two days after Thanksgiving, my mother died. I don't really think I should have to say anything more about that.

I've been working at Wal-Mart for over a year now. I hate it more than words can describe. But, still, it's money.

I cut myself twice so far in 2007. I'm a bit disturbed by this. I find myself having very intense negative feelings all the time, swinging between depression and anger. I imagine I'm pretty unpleasant much of the time.

But, anyway, enough depressing crap. I'mma do some lame ass best of 2006 crap.

Best Albums:
1. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones
2. Peaches - Impeach My Bush
3. Polysics - Now Is the Time!
4. Dresden Dolls - Yes, Virginia
5. Alice Donut - Fuzz
(honorable mention to Revolting Cocks, Blood Brothers, and Sonic Youth)

Best Album Title (possibly ever): Impeach My Bush

Best Comic: The All-New Atom

Best Graphic Novel: Fun Home by Alison Bechdel

Best Comic "Event": 52.

Best new TV shows: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, then The Class, then Heroes.

Best movie: I watched so few I won't even bother.

Oh, and on to my alleged creativity, I've decided to stop trying to futz around with more than one medium, and am now sticking to trying to get some comic book scripts done. So far, I'm working on:

Kallisti!: A superhero book about the lighthearted adventures of a young woman and her roommate, the Goddess of Chaos. Have finished a first draft of the first script.
The Alice Hellstalker Mysteries: Hard-boiled fantasy. Have started scripting the first issue.
Life?: An ensemble sitcom comic. Have started scripting the first issue.
Hypercity Blues: My superhero magnum opus. Am currently working out/refining the overall plot arc.

I also plan to eventually try working on: The Aleathnealara Cycle, an ultraviolent fantasy epic; Some sort of semi-autobiographical thing; Some sort of documentary-style graphic novel about America's cultural war on porn, mainly focusing on the town of Berlin's ultrastupidity about the VIP franchise. I also have a few other ideas floating around in my head, most of which I'm not sure what to do with. (Example: "Super Theodore Roosevelt!" Hm. Maybe I could use him as a backup in Kallisti! or something.)

Can't think of anything else to report.

Oh, I should probably say this: If you say "Happy Valentine's Day" to me, I will tell you to go fuck yourself.

Anyway, byebye now.
