One of my regular customers came into the store today, and after the requisite "Hi, how are you doing?" he responded and asked me the same. My answer was "I find myself thinking that this job would be much easier if the company wasn't so insistant upon sobriety." I believe the result was what one would call a guffaw. I like it when I can do that.
It went much better than yesterday's attempt at humor, when a customer had a bunch of junk food and said she was shopping while hungry. I said "Yeah, they say you should never shop hungry. Especially at the pet store. They kinda frown on that." That one fell a bit flat.
